Locked out at SFU or UniverCity? We drive up Gaglardi Way to reach student housing, UniverCity condos, and campus-adjacent buildings — any hour, any day, no fabricated ETAs.
The mountain approach adds a few minutes — we're honest about that. Everything else is the same fast, licensed service.
Simon Fraser University sits at the top of Burnaby Mountain, accessed almost entirely via Gaglardi Way off Hastings Street or the Barnaby connector from Highway 1. The mountain community is a genuine residential neighbourhood — not just a campus. UniverCity, the planned community on the summit plateau, has grown steadily and now includes a mix of strata condos, townhomes, rental buildings, and student residence halls.
The access reality matters for locksmith work. The Gaglardi Way climb takes 10–15 minutes from the base, which we add to any arrival estimate. We're honest about the mountain. If you call at 2 pm on a weekday, budget 35–45 minutes from dispatch. Late evenings and weekends, we can be faster. We'd rather give you an accurate window than promise 20 minutes and show up in 45.
Within the UniverCity neighbourhood, the housing stock leans newer — most buildings were constructed in the 2000s and 2010s and use modern Schlage or Kwikset hardware that is straightforward to rekey or upgrade. Strata council approval is usually required before adding a smart lock, but battery-powered deadbolt replacements that don't alter the door prep tend to sail through. We can advise before you invest in hardware.
The SFU campus itself has its own facilities team for university-owned buildings, but we regularly assist residents locked out of privately-owned condos and townhomes in the UniverCity area, and students locked out of off-campus student housing units along the summit roads. We also handle car lockouts in the Gaglardi parking lots and along the UniverCity streets — a common call on a foggy mountain morning when keys end up locked inside.
UniverCity's residential buildings range from the compact studio condos along University High Street to larger townhomes bordering the forest edge. Most use standard North American deadbolt hardware — Schlage B-series and Kwikset 660-style being the most common. A rekey after a roommate moves out, a lost key, or a new-owner cylinder change are all routine calls from this community. We carry the pins and keyway inserts to handle most makes without ordering parts.
For student rental housing — basement suites and converted homes along the mountain roads off Gaglardi — the hardware is sometimes older and less predictable. We assess on arrival and call out if a cylinder is beyond rekeying before we proceed.
Every job handled by a licensed mobile technician — no subcontractors.
We cover all of Burnaby — here are the areas near the mountain base.
